Cavity Wall Extractions / Clearance Certification
A new much needed Cavity Clearance Certified Scheme is now available!
With over 3 million homes in the UK suffering with mould, damp and other related issues caused by obstructed Wall Cavities there is a demand for a robust method of ensuring that only Certified Technicians are involved in Clearing the Cavities. OSCAR On Site has been working with leading UKAS Certification Body , Stroma to develop such a scheme. This will give peace of mind to to home-owners, local authorities and housing associations that the work carried out is completed to the highest standards
Obstructions in a cavity wall can be created in any number of ways including:
- Cavity not cleared correctly when house constructed
- Building work carried out – replacement windows, conservatory
- General improvements may bridge the cavity if not done professionally – badly fitted flue, boiler, vent etc
Cavity wall clearance/extraction is the procedure whereby debris, obstructions and or old insulating material is cleared from a cavity. Such obstructions are found in a surprising number of dwellings and regularly cause issues within the home, such as creating cold spots and damp problems. This extraction method has a number of features:
- Extractions can be carried out for both full and partial cavity clearance
- Suitable for use on most cavity constructed properties
- Resolves existing damp issues through clearance of existing debris
- No maintenance is required
- Insulation Removal Procedure
The Cavity Clearance Technician will inspect the inside of the property to make sure there are no open holes or apertures in the inner leaf. If there are holes then they are to be suitably repaired to ensure no insulation is blown into the property, then,
A series of bricks are removed at the base of each elevation. At these open brick points, a Cavity Extraction machine is positioned over the hole so that when insulation leaves the cavity it is collected in the bag to ensure the site is as tidy as possible. Drill holes are made, then a high pressure lance will be used to blow insulation down through the cavity, and out of the removed brick area in sections until all insulation is removed from the elevation.
